glorify
As morning dawns and evening fades
You inspire songs of praise
That rise from earth to touch Your heart and glorify Your Name
Jesus, in Your Name we pray
Come and fill our hearts today
Lord, give us strength to live for You and glorify Your Name
Your Name is a strong and mighty tower
Your Name is a shelter like no other
Your Name, let the nations sing it louder
'Cause nothing has the power to save but Your Name

walk the plank, ye merry gentlemen,
o'er the stormy waves, join in;
tis' bellows and baubles, a jaunt, this traipse
we dance; these light toes they keep the line
what fun, what game! what sheer delight
when warm lights gather in dark of night
the hope, the laughter! the lovely cheer
when someone to love is near

musings
singing
waiting
wishing
wondering
sunset at a beach, barbeque, sand, drinks
later, we retreated and got ourselves clean
the sensation of reaching the point of decoupling
and then coupling to its own effect, reinforces
the desires and needs and wants and uncertainties
gathering speed unsure of the crash
takeoff may never come, but we don't have a plan
the whole idea in its entirety expressed
thus winding in circles, the pabulum unwinds

lemon
you were always a little detached, a little aloof
you were the last of the litter.
you came into this world, not presuming to be loved.
you had the persona of a tiger, all the will and guile
you did not choose your family, yet you chose
you knew how to show love and how to be loved
you knocked over some milk on your first day
you bowled my heart over in seconds
you obliged to participate and enjoy fully
you loved to go where i would go.
you learnt to jump, to play, to excite
you taught a boy what it means to live
you held up a heart with your own little one
your eyes expressed what my words could not
you insist on being toasty in the sheets
you knew the value of bridging distances.
your feet are light, your mind is free
you danced at every opportunity
you left a little space for growing up
you leave a man who learnt to love
may your paws always tread lightly,
your bowl always have a little more left at the bottom,
your blue ring never be lost
your frisbee float a little longer mid flight
your chin always retain a bit of yogurt,
your ears always unfold in the night,
your blankets stay warm and airy,
your tummy always be rubbed when you wake,
your nose always pick up new scents,
your face always shine with intelligence,
your social circle always treat you as queen,
your soft heart always have a bit more love,
your sweet kisses excavate more smiles,
your name evoke dear memories,
your days be long and satisfying,
your years be abundant and joyful.
may you show more people what it means to live life to the fullest, and how to love with all your big small heart.
may you remember your life before then, and may ellie always be your fondest.
signed,
daddy

like a flower waiting to bloom,
what is romance?
can romance fade, as color on old photographs; leaving behind a dull semblance of something once so vibrant?
can romance be lost, as one misplaces a set of keys, not remembering where they are or which drawers they open; forsaken with nobody bothering to recover them anymore?
or does romance come and go as a summer breeze, with lovers rustling pleasantly while it lasts; yet withering eventually, come the penetrating chill of subsequent autumn?
the pervading sense of the usual- passion, perhaps mistaken for romance, overwhelms at the start and underwhelms with passing time. romance is declared dead- post mortem reveals that it was perhaps never there at all; was it all imagined?
let me offer my humble take. romance is choosing that one person, day after day, year after year, misplaced item after misplaced item, standing toilet seat after standing toilet seat, mistake after mistake, simply because.
simply because she is special; she is yours.simply because he has always been there for you; where else would he go? simply because the two of you made a binding agreement, and breaking it will never cross your mind.
now tell me, isn't that romantic?
romance doesn't die as long as something illogical remains about the relationship. why does that smile make you so happy, in a different way from other smiles? how did that particular hand come to hold your very heart, soothing it with gentle strokes, hurting it with careless squeezes? why is that hard, edgy shoulder so nice to nuzzle, or to lean on to cry?
romance can be found, if we look at the right places. in the quiet of the night, tucked in that warm hand that lies unclenched. or somewhere in the bloom of the single rose stalk on the kitchen table, perhaps with three little words scrawled on the little attached note. or impressed on that 3 by 5 in the wallet that is starting to crease. oh, the romantic soul, it can be forgotten, but never can it disappear. time transforms it to be richer, deeper; romance thrives when it is allowed to take the spotlight.
constantly remind yourselves of why you love. romance doesn't need to be contrived- there already exists a never ending flow of plastic, assembled products pushed into our lives to fulfill manufactured wants and imaginary needs. romance was never about what we didn't have; draw from what has been. gently scoop it up, savor it, let it refresh. take what you need- there will always be more.
my romance, i await for you to come home, and light me up.
